NADAL KING OF FRANCE

Raphael Nadal emerged victorious on Saturday  as he overcame Roger Federer in four sets to claim his sixth French Open tennis title.

This now stands Rafa on ten Grand Slam titles only one behind tennis greats Rod Laver and Bjorn Borg.Nadal is more importantly only six behind current Grand Slam record holder and the man he just defeated Roger Federer, who now is approaching 30 and is five years Nadal's senior.

The debate on who is the greatest of all time rages on but no one can argue that both of these players will go down as two of the best to ever grace a tennis court.

Did you know? The French open was named after French aviator Roland Garros who was the first aviator to fly across the Mediterranean sea in 1913. The tournament is named after the stadium where it is held, Stade de Rolland Garros.

INDIA TO TOUR WINDIES WITH DEPLETED SQUAD

The Indian cricket team will embark on their limited overs leg of their Caribbean tour with most of their senior players either being rested or out through injury.

The team will be led by Suresh Raina who hopes to have more success this time around. Raina's last stint as captain ended in disappointing fashion on a tour to Zimbabwe when they only managed one victory from four outings and failed to make the final.

The West indies will also be without stars Chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul who are still out of favour with the Windies Cricket board.

India will go to the Windies with a new coach at the helm in Duncan Fletcher who hopes to emulate the success of previous coach South African Gary Kirsten.

LANCE ARMSTRONG HERO OR DOPER

Is Lance Armstrong a Doper?

The so called evidence has still to see the light of day and the anti-doping case against the seven time Tour De France Winner and cancer surviver rest on the testimony of Swiss anti-doping laboratory director Martial Saugy.

The so called suspicious samples do not in fact have Armstrong's initials on them and the samples of Armstrong's that tested positive have still to be found.

If  the evidence is out there, where is it? Accusations of this kind against a man who is an inspiration to people all over the world, should be backed up before it does irrevocable damage to a sporting legend.

If Armstrong did in fact take performance enhancing drugs it will be a sad ending to a remarkable career, but until that evidence appears I will still show Armstrong the respect he deserves.

Did you Know? Greg LeMond won the Tour De France in 1990 without having a single stage.

FEDERER-DJOKOVIC SHOWDOWN ?

Roger Federer yesterday cruised to a straights victory over home town hero Gael Monfils. Federe clinched a 6-4 6-3 7-6 win in a scrappy wind affected encounter to set up what could be mouth watering semi- final battle with man of the moment Novac Djokovic.

Djokovic, unbeaten on any surface this year lies just one victory short of  John McEnroe's 42 match unbeaten run at the beginning of a season set back in 1984 .

Earlier in the day Andy Murray came through a tough five setter 4-6 4-6 6-3 6-2 7-5 with a win against Serbian Victor Troicki. Murray next faces Argentinian Juan Ignacio Chela in todays quarter-final .

In the other quarter-final world no1 Rafael Nadal faces off against Robin Soderling.

Did you Know? When Roger Federer won the French Open in 2009 he equaled Pete Sampras's record of 14 grand slam victories.

Is Sepp Blatter past his sell by date

Is World football being run by an old School dinosaur who refuses to admit that all is not well in the house of FIFA.

Accusation of corruption are running wild in the international football community with bribes and back-handers being the flavour of the day.The only one who seems oblivious to this is FIFA supremo Sepp Blatter.Blatter refuses to accept that certain members of the FIFA delegation have offered and been offered bribes in return for votes regarding the handing out of World Cup Tournaments.

Asian soccer chief Mohamed Hamman  has been suspended by FIFA'S ethics committee over the cash for votes scandal which means that Blatter will stand unopposed once more in the race to determine who will be FIFA'S next boss.

In my opinion it is time for some new blood to stand up and give Blatter and some of the other dinosaurs a run for there money and bring some fresh ideas into the world of international football.

Did you Know? Shirt swapping was banned in the 1986 World Cup Because FIFA did not want the players to show their bare chests on the field.

Indians scalp Knight Riders

Last nights play-off game in the IPL turned out to be a lot closer than the Indians would have liked. The Kolkata Knight Riders posted a competetive 147 thanks to a superb innings of 70 from just 49 balls by Dutchman Ryan Ten Doeschate.

However one felt that this was always going to be a few runs short of the mark which in the end proved to be the case.

The Indians got off to a flying start thanks to a whirlwind 50 By Aussie opener Aiden Blizzard. They then had a bit of a middle order collapse until James Franklin and Indian Spin wizard Harbhajan Singh saw them across the line in the final over.

The next game for the Indians comes on Friday when the take on the Royal Challangers Bangalore with the victor taking on the Chennai Super Kings in Saturdays Final in Chennai.

IPL. Getting to the business end of the competition

As we near the end of the 2011 version of the IPL cricket competition the Chennai Super Kings have emerged as the favorites to retain their Crown as champions of  the premier 20 Over cricket competition on the planet .

The Super Kings led by Indian Skipper M S Dhoni secured a well deserved victory in the 20th over due to some powerful hitting by South African All-Rounder Albie Morkel and sensational Indian youngster Suresh Raina.

In todays match up the Mumbai Indians take on the Kolkata Knight Riders which should be a closely fought out contest.

The Indians will as always be counting on their Legendary captain Sachin Tendulkar to get them off to a positive start and for their Sri-Lankan Speedster Lasith (slinger) Malinger to finish things off with a mixture of his customary unplayable yorkers and well disguised slower balls.

The Knight Riders will attempt to spoil the Indian party with a lot riding on the shoulders of South African stalwart Jaques Kallis. They will be hoping that Kallis can root himself to the crease and allow the other Knight Rider big hitters to play around him. The Knight Riders will be counting on Aussie pace legend Brett Lee rolling back the years to give the Indian batsmen something to think about.

The action will commence at 8pm Indian Time.

A Must See for all lovers of cricket!
